About the book
The Desert Prophet is a 120 page graphic novel about a disillusioned apocalyptic prophet reckoning with the end of the world, set in a surreal desert full of saints, sinners, and beasts.
Work on this novel began in 2018, when I created the Desert Prophet character as an artist alter ego whose prophetic message was about action & consequence, creation & consumption, fury & fire—about human-caused climate change, and how to stop it.
I started doodling myself in my little Desert Prophet outfit. Soon other characters started coming out of the woodwork—and I had to figure out what story they wanted to tell.
This graphic novel is a climate parable. It is about how to live a moral life at the end of the world, when our actions may or may not make a difference toward the outcome.
Creating this book was very healing for me on an anxious topic. I hope it can be for you too.
